Mission: NeDA builds affordable housing and empowers communities to create sustainability through financial education and guidance.
NeDA is a bilingual (Spanish/English) HUD-certified housing Counseling agency that focuses its resources on providing housing and financial coaching services to Minnesota’s Latino and low-income communities. We serve over 1,000 individuals annually.
Primarily Function: NeDA is seeking a motivated Housing Counselor who will work primarily with the Latino community and be responsible for homebuyer education and home purchase/financial wellness counseling services.
Position Summary: We are seeking a motivated and experienced Certified Housing Counselor (training available) to join our team. In this role, you will provide customer service support for NeDA’s programs and be the first point of contact for consumers seeking information about homeownership, financial counseling, foreclosure assistance, and home improvement. The ideal candidate will have a strong passion for helping families achieve homeownership and financial stability. Key responsibilities include providing one-on-one counseling, facilitating workshops, and conducting outreach to educate clients on navigating their financial and housing goals. Your expertise and dedication will be vital in empowering clients to take meaningful steps toward achieving their dreams.
Key Responsibilities:
· Collaborate with clients to develop personalized financial action plans that encompass budgeting, credit building, and investment guidance, while supporting others in foreclosure prevention and debt reduction.
· Provide one-on-one counseling on financial planning for homebuyers, foreclosure prevention, debt management, and other financial goals.
· Facilitate workshops for first-time homebuyers, including Home Stretch certification courses, and assist in coordinating logistics for these workshops, such as tracking registrations, securing venues, and assembling materials.
· Conduct community outreach to raise awareness of NeDA's housing and financial programs while representing NeDA at community events, which may include some weekends.
· Maintain current information on available home mortgage products and down payment assistance programs.
· Network with lenders, Realtors, community-based organizations
· Provide additional services as needed, which may include post-purchase counseling, home rehab financing, and refinancing options.
· Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bilingual fluency in Spanish and English is required.
Certified Housing Counselor, Certified Homestretch Educator, or Certified Foreclosure Counselor (priority given to those with these certifications but open to those willing to earn them).
3-5 years of customer service experience or an Associate's degree.
Strong background in financial literacy, including credit, budgeting, and investments.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and internet-based tools.
Self-starter with excellent problem-solving skills and adaptability to changing circumstances.
Marketing and outreach skills to engage diverse community groups.
